Countryside Ireland are lighting a beacon fire near the famous Hill of Tara to support their friends and colleagues in the U.K. on Monday 16th September. Such is the level of feeling about the attempts by the British Government to ban hunting with hounds and the effects that it will have on Irish fieldsports.

Since pre Christian times, the Hill of Tara has been the centre of a long tradition of ceremonial fires and was an important place to the ancient Celts. Now it is more often associated with stories of St. Patrick and his conversion of the High King and while one beacon is hardly likely to convert Tony Blair it does show politicians both in the U.K. and the Republic that Irish fieldsports followers are not prepared to be pushed around without a fight.
