Our President, Thady Ryan MFH, launched his latest book "MY PRIVILIGED LIFE" at the Kerrygold Horse Show 2002 and signed copies at our stand during the week and at the Limerick Agricultural Show. Thady now lives a large part of the year in New Zealand but is still the longest serving Master of the Scarteen. Copies are available from Michael Ryan and Associates, Low Street, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow for €80 including post and packing. VISITING GUNS A number of committee members have been approached in recent times for advice about obtaining firearms licences for visiting non-residents wishing to shoot in Ireland and the following may be of some help in what has over the years been both controversial and slightly mysterious. Application must be made to the Garda Superintendent of the district you intend to start shooting in and you will need a current European Firearms Pass, supporting documentation, the appropriate fees and proof of adequate Third Party Liability insurance cover. Such licences are not renewable and a fresh application must be made annually. COMMITTEE MEETINGS The last 12 months have been very busy for the committee with frequent meetings held in various locations and a heavy workload of shows which take a lot of preparation. Neither adverse weather nor road conditions proved too much for members and thanks are due to David, Denis, Michael, Niall, Philip and William. It should be remembered that all committee members are giving up their free (and not so free) time on a regular basis to run this organisation with many a day's holiday been donated to the cause. Apart from the time a meeting takes there is often considerable time and expense involved in travelling and preparing ideas or doing all those little jobs that are part of any successful organisation. EUROPEAN FIREARMS PASS If you wish to travel to another European Union State with your gun you will need a European Firearms Pass and it's not as difficult to obtain as you might think. Application is made atyour usual Garda Station to the local Garda Superintendent with a current Firearms Certificate (Gun Licence) for each firearm you want to bring away and two passport type photographs and documentary proof of adequate Third Party Liability insurance cover. You must state which European state you intend visiting and when you intend to travel but once you have obtained your Pass you can renew it by having it stamped each year when renewing your Firearms Certificates. Thanks A special thanks to all who helped at shows, folded newsletters, stuck address slips on envelopes, made tea and sandwiches, carried boxes and all the other rather thankless jobs that running any organisation involves. Time is precious these days and I appreciate the help from Marie, Margaret Shern, Mary and Joanne Corcoran, Catherine Lawton, Charlie Cullen, Matthew Lloyd, William and Eleanor Harty and all the committee members who have made my life as Hon.Secretary and stand manager so much easier. If I have forgotten you please accept my sincere apologies and don't give out to me when I next plead for your assistance. Philip Lawton, Hon. Secretary.
