EMO COURT TO HOST 2005 NATIONAL COUNTRY FAIR

Emo Court, Emo, Co. Laois to host Ireland's leading Countryside Event - The National Country Fair on Sunday June 5th and Monday June 6th.

Last year's Fair which took place at the same venue, attracted a record attendance of 42,000 visitors over the two days and this year organisers are confident that numbers will increase.

Margaret Edgill, Event Director said "Emo Court is a truly magnificent setting and we will continue to host world champions in each discipline to ensure we provide the highest quality entertainment to our visitors. Also, access to the event will be much improved with the opening of the new motorway interchanges off the M7 and the increased parking made available by local residents".

The National Country Fair has grown from strength to strength year on year, in just 5 years attendance figures have grown from 5,000 to 42,000, that's a massive 700% growth. The standard of competition has also risen dramatically with last year's fair seeing the setting of a world record and this year's fair promises to be better than ever.

The angling symposium at the National Country Fair has become established as the largest outdoor angling exhibition in Ireland with a huge variety of fishing events, demonstrations and displays that appeal to all anglers. Favourites in attendance again this year are World Champions Hywel Morgan and Peter Anderson. Margaret said "the magnificent twenty five acre lake at Emo Court last year provided the perfect setting for Scot McKenzie to break the world record in The International Spey Casting Championships and hopefully this year, we can see more records set".

This year's line up includes, as well as Ireland's leading angling exhibition, shooting, gun dog trials, the exciting hunt chase, mounted games, international HPR working tests (Ireland V England), falconry displays, showing and working hunter classes, vintage cards, Gordon Bennett Rally, Harley Bikes, Surfin' Dirt, Have a Go Clay Shooting and a tented village with a wide variety of shops, that will have something to interest everyone. The National Country Fair is a fantastic, entertaining and educational day out for all the family, so make sure you are in Emo Court on June 5th and 6th.

Tracey Coughlan, Senior Officer of Marketing and Development for East Coast & Midlands Tourism said " we are delighted to see The National Country Fair returning to County Laois and in particular to the magnificent Emo Court. Events of this magnitude which attract such significant visitor numbers are key to strengthening the tourism industry in the region".

Emo Court is located just 6 miles north of Portlaoise on the N7 (Kildare to Portlaoise road) and is only 4 ½ miles from Portarlington train station.
